About

Olamaelcu is a portmanteau of the names of two characters from literature that has heavily influenced Jacky. The first being Lauren Olamina, from Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower and the latter being Maelcum, the pilot of the Marcus Garvey ship in William Gibson's Neuromancer. Each person had critical roles in their book as navigators and wayfinders. The hope is that Olamaelcu does the same for social Web experiences.

There's more to come on the background of this venture and its ambitions ‐ it's the cumulation of years of opinion and research into something more of an actionable lab. The ambition is to match that of Ideas Never Cease, Ink&Switch and others whose public experimentation has encouraged this forward move.

It's pronounced /oʊˈmɛl iː kuːl/ (oh-mel-lee-cool), by the way.
